You know, there are a lot of people on this earth. Has it ever crossed your mind ‘how in the world can God keep track of all of us?’ – I mean, let alone love us and hear us? There’s (There’re) quite a few of us. Well, if that has ever bothered you, please consider this touching story recorded by Moses from the life of Enoch the prophet.

After Enoch built his remarkable city called Zion, Enoch received a vision in which he saw that Zion would eventually be taken up into heaven, leaving behind those people who, for the most part, had not chosen righteousness. Enoch is then permitted to see nation after nation of these people, some of whom repent and are saved, but most going on in wickedness. Then Enoch sees Satan laughing with a great chain in his hand veiling the whole face of the earth in darkness.

Now, right after he sees Satan laughing because of the wickedness of men, he sees this interesting thing: Enoch sees God weeping. He is evidently surprised and he asks, “How is it that the heavens weep, and shed forth their tears as rain upon the mountains?” (Moses 7:28) “… How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity? And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet” – now listen carefully – “and yet thou art there, and thy bosom is there; and [also] thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever;” (Moses 7:29-30)

Even in the asking, Enoch’s question is an incredible revelation. With an infinity of worlds and children, - with all of that, the God of the universe for us is here; His heart is here, His tears are here, and He is merciful and kind forever. When God’s children suffer, no matter where they are, especially if it’s unnecessary, He suffers with them, even to tears.

You know, there may be nearly six billion people on this earth, but that’s okay. When you know that the eye of God is upon you, and the heart and soul of God are with you, it no longer matters how many others there are, or where they are, it becomes as though you were the only one.
