Mitchie

Father and Son

I am convinced that we are not alone in this world. There is a loving power that knows us, that watches over us, and that guides us if we’ll listen, as this story very close to home illustrates.

A few months ago, my brother-in-law had an experience, which even now in the telling fills his eyes with tears, and his heart with deep gratitude.

Late one night well after his children were all down in bed, he made his way to his second floor bedroom. As he passed by the top of the stairs, however, he noticed a light on downstairs in the kitchen. Well, knowing that the family was all in bed and that all the lights should be off, he paused, puzzled, and asked his wife if she had left any lights on. She answered that she hadn’t. He contemplated the long journey down the stairs to turn it off, but fatigue won out; he decided to leave it on and go to bed.

Having made that decision, he started to turn toward his bedroom when he was stopped by a gentle impression that he should investigate further. He nearly ignored it –
sleep was calling more loudly, but the feeling persisted.

Without a second thought, he descended the stairs. As he rounded the corner into the kitchen, he discovered Mitchie, his 2-1/2-year-old son up in the middle of the kitchen counter surrounded by the contents of two containers of high potency medicine. Both caps were off, and a bright pink ring circled the toddler’s mouth.

Reacting quickly, he rushed the boy to the hospital where competent medical personnel acted swiftly and saved his life.

Now, you could never convince Shayne that he wasn’t prompted by the God of Heaven, not ever so long as he can look into the bright vibrant eyes of that beloved son who will evermore serve as a continual reminder of the goodness of God.
