About Alex

If you had said to me as I hid behind my Mother's skirt that I would one day make a career out of being on stage I don't think I ever would have believed it.

I was a shy girl until I stood on stage, something clicked and I was home.

I got my first professional job at 19 when I went to an open audition for Dorothy in 'THE WIZARD OF OZ' at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin.

I was lucky to get an agent from that job; Yvette Hally who remained my agent for over 20 years. I worked the Dublin circuit in everything from musical theatre, cabaret, pantomime, recording work in film and TV and as a frequent guest soloist with the RTE Concert Orchestra.

I soaked up every moment of learning and the opportunity to build my craft as a young performer in Ireland.

I learned so much watching other actors, directors, stage crew, technical crew, but the most important thing I learned was the value of every individual in making the magic happen and that no one was more important than the next.

Needing to spread my wings and learn more I auditioned in 1998 for Cameron Mackintosh's UK touring production of 'LES MISERABLES' and played the role of Eponine.

In 2000 I had the amazing opportunity to be one of the original cast in Andrew Lloyd Weber's production of 'THE BEAUTIFUL GAME' at the Cambridge Circus Theatre, London and create the role of Bernadette.

In 2002 I returned home to Ireland to have my son Jacob, to date the most proud production of my life. I stepped away from performing full time to raise him as a single parent but kept a foot in the performing world taking work opportunities that didn't compromise my time in being a full time Mother.

In 2006 I received a call from David Downes, the musical mastermind behind the phenomenally successful CELTIC WOMAN, to join the group for the North American tour of A NEW JOURNEY, and stayed with the group for three years; this was an incredible whirlwind experience which introduced me to the American audience and provided me with the opportunity to perform in some of the most iconic venues with some of Ireland's most talented musicians, travel the world and provide me with some of the most memorable performing highlights of my career.

After a lot of consideration I chose to leave Celtic Woman as I found the strain of traveling and juggling schedules too much of an emotional strain on me as a Mother and I wanted to provide Jacob with the healthiest and most stable childhood that I could so I hung up the touring shoes and returned to Ireland.

As Jacob got older short term work trips were more viable and I had the opportunity to return to the States and appear as a concert soloist and collaborate with other artists such as Jenny Oaks Baker, Kurt Bestor, Camile Nelson and create the role of Tess in Jimmy Kelly and Jeff Strange's musical FIND YOUR WAY HOME

In 2013 I released my first solo album 'Be Still My Soul'; 2015 my debut concert 'ONE HEART ONE VOICE' in Logan, Utah and in 2016 I started the group 'CARANUA' alongside former Celtic Woman colleague Lynn Hilary.

January 2020 sees the release of a new EP 'Broken By Design', the opening of a performing arts studio 'SHINE' and a series of summer concerts in Utah alongside fellow musician and artist Steve Young.
