Suzanne Broberg Hodson writes them and Becky Cutler Willard sings them.
Suzanne (Broberg) Hodson has lived in Orem, Utah her entire life. She has always loved singing and music. Her father used to call her his “la la girl” because even before she could talk she would sing, “la la.”
In the early 1990’s Suzanne realized one day that instead of just thinking or talking to herself when she had strong feelings or questions about things, she would sing about it. She had always liked writing poetry and found that what she was was singing was her own creation…a poem with a melody…it was a song! Going home and recording it onto a tape and writing down the lyrics, was the beginning of many years of working on song writing. With no formal music education in her background, besides singing in choirs, playing the flute through high school, and a little piano, Suzanne was very happy when a very musically talented friend, Al Huish, told her that she could hear chords in her head and encouraged her to figure out what those chords she was hearing were, to go along with her melody and lyrics. It was a big “Aha moment.”
Seeking instruction and receiving encouragement from talented mentors like Jenny Phillips, Tyler Castleton, Janice Kapp Perry, Becky Willard and Greg Hansen, Suzanne has been creating and producing Christian music that has found it’s way onto FM 100 “Sunday Sounds” and Carl Watkins’ “Sounds of Sunday” programs. Becky Willard has produced most of Suzanne’s songs since 2011 and has been the vocalist for most of them as well, though she recently used Aaron Edson as vocalist for her song, “Best Intentions.” Suzanne has released one album, “One Lone Branch,” and many singles, including “Faith Instead of Fear,” “I’ll Forgive,” and “Refiner of My Soul.”
uzanne continues to study music and song writing and has taken up the ukulele in recent years. In the near future she hopes to begin working more seriously on the guitar. Sharing the love, peace, and joy of the Savior through music is the purpose behind her songs. She loves the Lord, and all her music is an expression of that love and faith in Him.
Besides writing songs, she has worked at the Orem Library for many years and enjoys reading, watching movies, and doing family history. She and her husband, Terry, love spending time with their 4 grown and married children and 12 grandchildren. They enjoy cheering for the Utah Jazz, running half marathons, and doing service together.
