The First Syndicated Broadcast
In early 2004, I began production of a weekly one-hour syndication of "Sounds of Sunday" which included one Glenn Rawson Story. It began airing weekly on KBAR, Burley, Idaho and KART, Jerome, Idaho. Later it was added to KVSI, Montpelier, Idaho, and KITT-FM, Soda Springs, Idaho. In 2013, KITT closed, and KBRV in Soda Springs began airing "Sounds of Sunday" for 5 hours. KBAR now airs "Sounds of Sunday" from 2:00 to 7:00 PM.
In mid-2006 the syndication was added by Alan White to KACH in Preston, Idaho, and in November 2006, Matt Wheelright made BYU Radio an affiliate, which was streamed over the internet at www.byuradio.org, and was carried by DISH Network as Channel 980, and American cable network in Mesa, Arizona as Channel 97.
Syndication Growth
January 7, 2007, we added a 1½-hour addendum to "Sounds of Sunday" which included 2 additional Glenn Rawson Stories. As a 2½-hour show, it was then added by Kent Lee to KMVX-FM (Mix-103) in Twin Falls, Idaho, and by Jim Burgoyne to KLCE in Blackfoot, Idaho where most of the stories were produced. On March 18, 2007, the addendum was increased to 4 hours allowing "Sounds of Sunday" to be configured to be any length from ½-hour to 5 hours in ½-hour increments. All 5 scheduled stories are included in the 5-hour show. Then KLCE began airing "Sounds of Sunday" all 5 hours from noon to 5 p.m. after their locally produced show from 5:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, and Mix-103 airs "Sounds of Sunday" for 7 hours from 5:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, repeating two hours, which later changed to KZDX, Hot-100 at 99.9.
Charlie Hall, the new owner of KXRQ in Vernal, Utah later replaced his locally produced "Sounds of Sunday" with the 4.5-hour syndication followed by "Music and the Spoken Word" and then the 5-hour syndication for a total of 10 hours. Keith Martindale of KVSI in Montpelier, Idaho also airs "Sounds of Sunday" for 10 hours. KVSI later increased the schedule to 3:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Sandy Mahoney later added her station KTMP in Heber, Utah as another 10-hour affiliate, which was sold in 2018 (suspending the program). Today, KXRQ airs "Sounds of Sunday" from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and KVSI airs "Sounds of Sunday" from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
We later added one hour of "Sounds of Sunday" to Majik-101.7 in Show Low, Arizona, and then to Majik-100.7 in Safford, Arizona. Today the program airs in Show Low from 6:00 to 11:00 AM and in Safford for 10 hours, from 7:00 AM to 5:)) PM.
In 2012, under new management, KLCE decided to make changes to its "Sounds of Sunday" programming. They reduced our syndicated program to one hour starting from 5:00 to 6:00 AM, and dropped the Glenn Rawson Stories the remainder of the day. The stories were then aired on their competitor KQEZ EZ-Rock (106.3 in Idaho Falls and 95.3 in Pocatello) as part of their "EZ Sundays." But in January 2016, KQEZ changed its format, which suspended "EZ Sundays."
In March 2019, KLCE under new management returned to the original "Sounds of Sunday" format replacing their local programming with our syndicated "Sounds of Sunday" program with Glenn Rawson all day long, from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On April 30, 2023, KLCE aired "Sounds of Sunday" for the last time, which concluded 46 years. Jim Burgoyne, the station manager of KLCE created "Sounds of Sunday" in 1987, and it ended in 2023. So "Sounds of Sunday" aired for 23 years before 2000 and 23 years after 2000 on KLCE.
Beginning May 7, 2023 "Sounds of Sunday" began airing on KSNA 100.7 MY-FM in the Idaho Falls - Pocatello area from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM with "Extreme Genes," "History of the Saints" and "Music and the Spoken Word" airing from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. The general manager of KSNA 100.7 MY-FM is Jim Burgoyne, the man who created "Sounds of Sunday" 46 years earlier at KLCE. Life is full of beautiful symmetry!
Sounds of Sunday 24/7
In January 2012, I was approached by Ted Garling who was creating Sounds of Sunday (24/7) as an internet station to air Sounds of Sunday continuously 24/7. "Books and Things" agreed to publicize Sounds of Sunday (24/7) in their over 50,000 catalogs printed and mailed three times annually. We are pleased that today Sounds of Sunday (24/7) is heard by an ever-growing number of listeners worldwide.
